Landmark Building in England

Postby amahran on Thu Jul 22, 2010 11:33 am

I found a building while flying from manchester to Bournemouth in a 737. In the middle of the STAR I was executing from the north, I saw a building too highly detailed to be Autogen, so I thought admin might like to take a look at it.

I do not know how to post the images onto this forum, but I know the location:

LAT: N51* 48.17' LON: W1* 22.72' ALT: 10983 FT MSL Mag149 228 KIAS WIND 231 MAG @ 24 kts.

It will be at approx. 10 o' clock or 11 o' clock general direction. At a zoom of 4.00, it will take up approx. quarter of the screen.

Sunset in one hour to set the mood :D

That would be Oxford University if we are seeing the same set of buildings. Got to tour through there once. Strange what monuments Microsoft decides to model. You can find many places in FSX like this that are interesting but didn't really need to get modeled, while other more major landmarks are left out.

Should admin post this as a tour or is it not worth it?

Perhaps it's not yet really in need of a tour, but interesting nonetheless. Again, as you fly around you may see more and more landmarks all around that you didn't expect to see. They really have done a lot of modeling for FSX. A good idea may be to fly around England and Wales a bit and see what there is to see, then perhaps plan out a tour of all the landmarks in the area. That would be an interesting flight as I'm sure there are many landmarks out there that have yet to be uncovered.

This tour, if it ever becomes one, should be a flight, since I saw this in a STAR. Also, it doesn't have a nearby airport to fly from, and due to it's relatively small size, If it is required to fly from an airport to reach that building, the margin for heading error and crosstracking error should be very smaller than usual. The SID from manchester was the HONILEY ONE ROMEO, and I took the appropriate high-altitude airways to arrive at the beginning of the STAR, which happens to be via SAM VOR with the NEDEX transition. The approach was the NDB (z) / DME 26 approach. Aircraft was the Default FSX 737-800

I think I saw the building in either the first leg of the STAR or the second.
